Our furniture is made from sustainably harvested Iroko timber, also known as African teak, sourced from West Africa. This dense hardwood is prized for its strength, durability, and natural resistance to decay and insect attack.
Before crafting, each plank is carefully kiln-seasoned and cured to enhance its stability, making it especially suitable for outdoor use. With its naturally high oil content, iroko performs exceptionally well under changing weather conditions when properly maintained. Its distinctive grain pattern—typically straight or interlocked—and rich colour palette, which ranges from golden honey to deep brown, give each piece a unique character. Over time, if left untreated outdoors, the wood will develop a graceful silver-grey patina, and some fine surface checking may occur naturally as it ages.
To maintain the furniture’s appearance and longevity, we recommend light maintenance at least once a year. Each piece is initially treated with a protective coat of outdoor oil to help it acclimate to its new environment and provide short-term protection from exposure. Ongoing care becomes the owner’s responsibility, depending on usage and preference. For high-demand or commercial environments, a commercial-grade sealer can be applied on request—please consult your sales representative if this option is required.
As a natural material, iroko responds to its surroundings. Its colour may shift subtly over time with exposure to sunlight, humidity, and temperature variations. While some surface cracking or fading may occur, these changes are purely cosmetic and do not affect the wood’s strength or structural integrity.
To preserve its beauty, occasional light sanding—either by hand or with a machine—followed by re-application of your chosen oil, varnish, or sealer is recommended. During extended periods of non-use, protective covers can help shield your furniture from the elements and further extend its lifespan.
